Q: I am Asian and I have medium brown skin. I am in a wedding soon and I need to know what makeup colours are good for me.
A: The most important thing to remember when wearing makeup is you need to feel comfortable in what you are wearing, looking like yourself. It is really important to match a foundation to your skin exactly. Most Asians have yellow-toned skin and therefore need to look for a foundation to match. Most lines are now offering warmer foundation choices as 90% of the population in general has a yellow-based skintone. If you have access to lines like Bobbi Brown, Lorac Now, onto color choices. The best color choices for weddings are more on the neutral side. I would suggest sticking with brown-based eyeshadows, blushes and lipsticks. This doesn't mean you can't wear color, but you want the color to be neutral. Some of my favorite MAC eyeshadow suggestions would be Shroom as a base color, Haux and Symmetry in the crease or outer corner of the eye, and Strada Blush. This is a great wedding look for almost any color of clothing you are wearing. Also Twig, Lame, or Spirit lipsticks topped off with a gloss for lips. You can definitely use shimmer, but not too much. Stila eyeshadows like Kitten or Wheat as a base, and Eden Heath or Mood on outer corner would also be pretty. You really do have so many options! Also check out Bobbi Brown Bone, Taupe, Banana, Toast and Stone shadows. Actually, all of her shadows and lipsticks are perfect for weddings, as they are all brown based and work well on warmer skintones. Go have your makeup done by a few artists beforehand to help with your look. And remember to have fun. Good luck!
